Agricultural Biotechnology department and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies, under the coordination of the Department of Horticultural Research, will hold a theoretical and practical conference on "Use of Biotechnology (CRISPR-Cas9) in Horticultural Breeding" in Antalya on 18-19 April 2024. Theoretical and practical training was organized for researchers working on plant breeding from both private sector R&D institutions and organizations.
Theoretical information about the "Use of Biotechnology (CRISPR-Cas9) in Horticultural Breeding" was given by Prof. Dr. Nedim MUTLU in the theoretical part of the training on April 18, 2024, at the Aksu campus of the West Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute Directorate. The practical part of the training in the laboratory was carried out by Prof. Dr. Nedim MUTLU and his team within the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Akdeniz University, on April 19, 2024.
In the application part of the laboratory, researchers were given practical training on Polymerase Chain Reaction, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Molecular Cloning, Gene Transfer Techniques and Transformation in Tissue Culture.
Researchers participating in the training had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills on the use of modern biotechnology tools such as CRISPR in the breeding of horticultural plants. In this way, it is aimed to contribute to the development of new plant varieties that will increase the efficiency and quality of agricultural production in Türkiye. The importance of this training is to contribute to the development of new plant varieties that will increase the efficiency and quality of agricultural production in Türkiye by improving the knowledge and skills of researchers on the use of modern biotechnology tools in the breeding of horticultural plants.
